About Us
New owners of Tranquility Lodge, Sheila and Rusty Nale, have lived in Belize since 1991 and worked in the tourism industry for the past 12 years. Like many expats, the Nales came to Belize as volunteers and found a place to call home. After 11 years managing the Mayan Princess Hotel on Ambergris Caye, the opportunity to purchase and manage a place of their own came along. "We say a little bird told us to," says Sheila. "One of our favorite birds of Belize is the Long-Tailed Hermit Hummingbird. The first time we came to look at the lodge a long-tailed hermit came into the thatched dining room as if to put its seal of approval on our choice. We look forward to welcoming guests and introducing all to our favorite little bird and this special place in southern Belize that we have chosen to call home."

BELIZE - DECEMBER 6, 2009   Sheila and Rusty Nale, owners of Tranquility Lodge in Southern Belize, announce the addition of the first of three thatched garden casitas. The casita offers an eco-experience in a traditional Mayan cohune thatched building without giving up the little comforts.

Fully screened with ceiling fan and en suite bathroom with hot water shower, guests will enjoy the surrounding jungle and gardens in comfort. They will birdwatch from their room in this pleasant accommodation and wake to the roar of the howler monkeys and the chatter of flocks of parrots overhead.

BELIZE - JANUARY 1, 2009   Today Sheila and Rusty Nale announced their purchase of Tranquility Lodge in the Toledo District of Southern Belize. After 12 years in hotel management in Belize, it seemed a natural progression to become owners of a lodge.

"We say a little bird told us to," says Sheila. "One of our favorite little birds is the Long-tailed Hermit Hummingbird. On our first visit to the lodge, a long-tailed hermit flew into the thatched dining room and put its seal of approval on our choice."
